When carbon gives power to batteries

In red the AGM batteries, in blue the gel batteries

Uniteck is launching a range of Unibat service batteries that use lead carbon technology to offer a much higher than average number of cycles. Technical explanation of the advantage of these batteries.

Uniteck is a French company (based in the Béziers region) that designs and manufactures solar panels with its own characteristics. But when you produce energy, you also have to store it. With its in-depth electrical expertise, Uniteck is launching a range of batteries for the 2019 season in line with its solar products: top-of-the-range batteries at very competitive prices.

For servitude batteries

Utility batteries are used to provide a large volume of electricity that is used over a long period of time (slow discharge as opposed to a starter battery that must provide a high current with a partial discharge over a short period of time). The servitude battery must also last over time and offer the highest number of charge/discharge cycles.

The difference between an easement and a starter battery is the thickness of the lead plates that make it up. A starter battery will have thin plates while a servitude battery will have thick plates. To manufacture these plates, we can use the so-called cast method (lead is cast in a mould) or the pressed method (lead is pressed by a machine). This second method makes it possible to obtain a higher density lead, which offers a better yield for storing and restoring electricity.

Added carbon

Carbon is one of the best electrical conductors. Offshore racers on competition yachts know this well and are wary of any electrical leaks. By adding a carbon additive to the lead plates, the energy flow in the battery is improved.

AGM or gel?

The active ingredient (electrolyte) is aggressive. This is why so-called sealed batteries are manufactured. For this purpose there is AGM technology which traps the electrolyte in blotting paper. But you can also use a gel electrolyte (Gel battery) to obtain the same result. Gel batteries offer a wider range of use in terms of temperature and also a greater number of charge/discharge cycles.

The importance of the number of cycles

When choosing an easement battery, it is necessary to look at its capacity (to provide electricity to meet the needs of the boat), but also its number of cycles. Indeed, with each discharge and recharging, the battery ages. This number of cycles determines the battery life.

A new range of batteries

To launch its own range of Unibat batteries, Uniteck has chosen to use the 2 high-performance technologies (machine pressed plates + carbon additive). Available in AGM and gel, this range offers 4 capacities (80Ah, 100Ah, 150Ah, 220Ah). Despite announced above-average performance in terms of number of cycles, these batteries are offered at the same price as traditional AGM or gel batteries.
