Web series / Under The Pole III: Christmas in the Marquesas

In this 12th episode of Under The Pole III, we find the crew of the Why in the Marquesas (French Polynesia), after two months spent in the Tuamotu Islands. Different landscapes, but also different seas for this new archipelago of the Deep Hope programme.

After two months spent on the atolls of the Tuamotu - quite flat - the Marquesas are the new archipelago of the Deep Hope programme. It is also an opportunity to reconnect with steep reliefs and green cliffs, and make an amazing parallel with the city of Kodiac in Alaska. Located further north and closer to the Equator, the water is more loaded with plankton. A kind of "Brittany in Polynesia".

Coral concentration and diversity are much lower and this is an opportunity to conduct new studies to characterize them.

But this stopover in Les Marquises is also an opportunity to take shelter from the hurricane season, which starts in December in Polynesia.

It will also be the place where the entire crew will celebrate Christmas. Walks in the lush forests, tiki hunting in the jungle, maintenance of diving equipment or even the end of deep diving training, in waters where visibility is more than reduced, but where life is so rich.
