Antifouling, nanoparticles to protect our hulls

It seems that there is a way to protect nanoparticle-based boat hulls. Several players are trying to enter this market with more or less success: implementation difficulties and efficiency to demonstrate. Revoxia comes to this market with the hope of offering a product that meets our expectations as a yachtsman.

As for antifouling, boaters are always looking for the miracle product. The one that will leave the hull clean, that will not require annual application and that will be easy to install.

We introduced you boat Protect, a nanoparticle-based product which is not an antifouling in the true sense of the term, but an inert passive product that reduces the mechanical adhesion of the organisms that colonize the hulls. This is the principle found on the lotus leaf on which the water does not adhere. We also talked about the Mirapakon, a Canadian product that works on the same principle .

But it seems that in this field of new products, announcements are fast, but production more difficult to control. Thus the Boat Protect seems today to have problems of supply while the Mirapakon answers the absent subscribers... Moreover the first tests carried out by boaters do not echo miraculous results.

Revoxia RX-Mupro

Revoxia, will a new player in the field do better? This French lab based in Alsace arrives on this market with the RX Mupro. It is a kind of transparent varnish that is applied to the hull and reduces the adherence of impurities. This product is applied on all surfaces (gelcoat, fibre, PVC, wood, metals, paint, varnish...) directly without primer. It has an announced lifespan of several years, even if for the moment, the lab does not pronounce itself beyond 2 years, but hopes for good results even after a longer period.

At the beginning of the season, it will be necessary to clean the hull (diving or karcher), but the dirty film will not have any strong adherence and nothing polluting will be rejected in nature, because the product remains on the hull announces us the manufacturer. But why then, if the product stays on the hull, isn't it effective for more than 2 years? We are entitled to ask ourselves the question..

If the RX Mupro seems a little expensive (238 €/l), it should be noted its covering power of 10 to 15 m2/l and especially its effectiveness of a minimum announced 2 years.
