We often talk about standards with barbaric names that boat and motor manufacturers must abide by. The most recent of these is called RCD2. Behind this name (Recreational Craft Directive) is a mandatory European standard for all recreational boats from 2.5 to 24 m. This standard pushes manufacturers to produce more virtuous and less polluting boats. Of course, a chapter applies to engine manufacturers who must meet the strict specifications.
Thus, to meet the RCD2 standard applied since January 1, 2017, engine manufacturers have had to produce engines with lower pollutant emissions, but also quieter.
A casing that serves as a radiator
To comply, Vetus had to make technical modifications to all its engine ranges. Thus, he equipped the top of his engines with an aluminum casing that serves as a radiator. With cooling water circulating on it, Vetus manages to lower the engine's operating temperature by 15° (a reduction of 20%!). Operating in a cooler ambient temperature, the air supply is more efficient and combustion improved. A solution devised by Vetus, the only marine engine manufacturer to have achieved this result.

A quieter air filter
To solve the noise problems, this manufacturer has modified the air filter to reduce intake noise. The air filter housing change can be read on the sound level meter with a 5 dB(A) drop. As a result, at cruising speeds (2200 rpm) the operation is almost silent.
Accessible accessories
To make the "life" of the yachtsman even easier, apart from making his engine as forgettable as possible, Vetus strives to make maintenance easier. Thus, Vetus engines are equipped with self-priming electric diesel fuel pumps. In the same way the water pump is always placed accessible on the front of the engine next to the oil and fuel filters.
