La Rochelle Nautical Week, the occasion of a sea baptism

The 17th edition of the Semaine du Nautisme took place from 14 to 18 June 2017 in La Rochelle on the old port. On the program, a nautical village, animations, but especially nautical baptisms, on a sailboat or a motorboat. A nice idea to make the general public discover sailing.

The approaches to the old port of La Rochelle were transformed, on the occasion of the Week of the Nautism, into a nautical village, marked out by two large inflatable arches. Organised by the "La Mer Pour Tous" collective, which brings together all the nautical associations in La Rochelle, in partnership with the Marina and the City of La Rochelle, this event brings together all the local players in the nautical sector and yachtsmen wishing to share their passion with the general public. Thus, walkers could stroll among the stands, learn about the sea trades or meet the "Sauveteurs en Mer" (sea rescuers).

Free water baptisms

For this 17 e edition, more than 60 nautical associations and partners offered free sea baptisms, on all types of boats: sailing boats, traditional boats, motor boats, dinghies, oars, jet-skis..

For 5 days, the public was able to enjoy a one-hour tour off the coast of La Rochelle on private boats (or other craft). A playful way to discover boating, for young and old alike.

Numerous nautical animations

In addition to the exhibitors' village and water sports, there were many events during the week. Thus, each day, the public could discover a different theme, and in particular on Saturday, a day dedicated to the animations of help and rescue at sea with impressive life-size interventions: hoistings, simulation of burning boat..

On Sundays, the programme covered more spectacular events, such as hoverboard, flyboard, F1 of the seas, jet-ski, etc. demonstrations, as well as introductions to the art of sea knots, the use of safety equipment, etc..
