Nordac 3Di, the dacron sail is also entitled to 3Di

North Sails declines the 3Di technology on dacron sails. Moulded polyester sails for cruising yachtsmen.

A method identical to 3Di for the regatta

North Sails launches the Nordac 3Di sail range. Made of dacron, these sails are made using the patented 3Di technology, which has been used for many years for North Sails' regatta sails. Only the material changes. The polyester fibres, grouped in strips, are positioned according to the expected forces in the sail. The various reinforcements and accessories required are added, and then the sail is shaped in 3D on a mould, hot and under vacuum. The resulting sail is seamless.

A better finished sail

Compared to a classic dacron sail, the one made in Nordac 3Di offers a superior quality of finish, thanks to the integration of seamless reinforcements. The 3D moulding ensures a good shape retention. On the other hand, as the fibre remains the same, the weight does not vary. Luc Joessel, North Sails Marketing Manager for Europe, sums up the qualities of Nordac 3Di as follows: "The only visual difference with classic 3Di, in dyneema, carbon or aramid, is the colour. The quality of finish is the same."

The new sails, which have been on test since the autumn of 2016, have given North Sails full satisfaction. One of the first to have tried it is François Gabart, who has a complete set of sails on his personal RM970.

Affordable 3Di

Available for 20 to 40 foot yachts, the Nordac 3Di will be offered at a price 5 to 10% higher than the classic dacron at North Sails.
