The Foiling Bay is the first French sporting event dedicated to hydrofoil water sports. This 2nd edition, which will take place from Thursday 18 to Sunday 21 May, the Bay of Pouliguen - La Baule - Pornichet will honour flying sailing with five flying disciplines. A superb spectacle to be seen from the sea, or the land.

Five foils disciplines united in the bay

The Foiling Bay is the first event 100% dedicated to flying boat series. Thanks to the appearance of foils (large daggerboards which look like airplane wings and which, with speed, allow the support on which they are fixed to take off above the waves), boats no longer float, but fly! And the same goes for board sports, which are also equipped with foils.

This event - including the 2 e edition will take place from 18 to 21 May - is organised by three yacht clubs in the Pays de la Loire region: the Cercle Nautique de la Baule le Pouliguen Pornichet (CNBPP), the Yacht Club de la Baule (YCLB) and the APCC.

It will bring together, over 4 days, more than 100 riders of 9 different nationalities, who will take part in 4 stages of national and international circuits in 5 hydrofoil disciplines. This year the Foiling Bay will host not one, but five flying disciplines in its nautical stadium, ideal for the navigation of foil supports: Flying Phantom, Foil Moth, Kitefoil, Windsurf foil and Stand up paddle foils. New supports that represent the future of water sports.

An ambitious programme

The program of the event promises to be ambitious and the level raised with four stages of the national and international professional circuits: the Warm Up of the European Flying Phantom Series, the final event of the Brittany Moths Series, the Neilpryde Series - CRX in kite and the Neilpryde Series - RSX convertible in board.

The first three days will be devoted to technical regattas and the Bay Derby (a coastal raid linking the three clubs), while Sunday will be dedicated to a knockout speed event, the spectacular "King of the Bay" trophy.

"The Foiling Bay will be the first official test of the RSX one-design convertible concept. We want to promote this new futuristic windsurfing board so that it can become an Olympic event at the 2024 Olympics. I'm very happy that this event will take place at my home in La Baule Bay, there's going to be a great show, that's for sure!" explains Julien Bontemps, Olympic vice-champion in windsurfing.

First worldwide Stand-Up paddle foil event

This new edition will host the world's first Stand Up Paddle event at Foil. The latest arrival in the family of board sports, this discipline seduces all thrill seekers. This board equipped with a foil allows riders to propel themselves over the water with a paddle. Whether in the waves or in the swell at sea, the Stand Up Paddle with foil can reach up to thirty kilometres per hour and is definitively establishing itself as the new fashionable discipline.

A show from the water, but safe

The new high-speed hydrofoil boats also require greater vigilance. Thus, for the safety of all, an exclusion zone has been decreed by the Maritime Prefecture. It will be marked out and the organisation's boats will be numerous on the water to provide prevention for boaters.

Spectator areas will be set up so that as many people as possible can come and admire the regattas on the water in complete safety.

But also on land

With its village open to the public, Foiling Bay promises to offer a spectacle both on the water and on land. A place for sharing and conviviality bringing together participants and spectators, which will be located on the beach, opposite the La Baule Yacht Club. The regattas will be broadcasted and commented live in the middle of numerous animations accessible to all. The opportunity for young and old alike to discover these latest generation flying machines up close.
