Last night, about twenty boats caught fire in the port of Bas-Sablons in the Saint-Servan district of Saint-Malo (35). A yachtsman noticed this Sunday, April 30, 2017, at 5:30 a.m., that a boat had caught fire. He then immediately alerted the harbour master's office, which in turn alerted the fire brigade.

The fire spread from Pontoon F to E Deck when vessels broke their mooring lines, drifting and setting other boats ablaze.

A total of 20 boats were affected: 8 sank, 6 were transported to the hold of the Naye as wrecks and 6 were damaged. Pontoon F was also partially destroyed. The origin of the fire will be determined by an investigation.

"No casualties, no casualties. That's the main thing says Claude Renoult, mayor of Saint-Malo. Every effort is being made to restore accessibility as soon as possible and replace damaged pontoons. We invite the tenants of the marina who notice any damage to their boat to contact directly the harbour master's office of the Port des Sablons."

A total of forty firemen were mobilized, from Saint-Malo, Cancale, Dinard and Plerguer. Divers were sent to analyse the wrecks and make sure that no one had remained on board. Some drifting boats were brought back to the hold of the Naye.
