Super-B, a Dutch battery manufacturer distributed in France by Kent Marine, launches the Epsilon range. These are lithium batteries that are installed in the same container (the same box) as a 95A lead battery.
Thus the replacement of a traditional lead battery by this Lithium battery is very easy for the user. He dismantles the old one and replaces it by the new one (dimensions 353 x 190 x 175 mm).
The Super Epsilon is a 12 V battery with a capacity of 90 Ah (1200 Wh). Its maximum load is 90A. Compared to a lead-acid battery that should not be discharged more than 50%, this Epsilon battery really offers a capacity of 90A. In addition, it supports 5000 cycles. At one cycle per day, this gives it a lifespan of over 10 years
The advantages are numerous for a boat with as first asset the weight. This battery weighs less than 15 kg when the same lead battery weighs 28 kg. The electronics to regulate the battery and the charge are integrated (BMS for Battery Mangement System). A Bluetooth connection to a smartphone to check the state of charge is even provided! The operating temperature range of -30° to +60° provides a high tolerance of use at extreme temperatures.
There remains the problem of price, since this battery will be proposed at approximately 2000 euros. A price which seems exorbitant at first sight, but which must be compared with the weaker lifespan of a lead battery (less than 5 years) and especially its possibility of discharge to 100% replacing then at least 2 lead batteries
