The Foiler 41, the motor boat with retractable foils

After a small-scale experimental prototype, presented in 2014, Hydros and Enata are preparing to market a motor boat with retractable foils. The Foiler 41 can therefore be used either as a conventional motor boat, or on its high-speed foils to save fuel.

The Foiler 41 is a 40-foot (12 m) retractable hydrofoil powerboat, meaning it can fly on the water to achieve high speeds at low efficiency. Developed by the Swiss company Hydros with the expertise of Enata, a Swiss company based in Dubai, specializing in research and engineering, the Foiler 41 required several years of intensive research.

With an ultra racy design inspired by the luxury car industry and racing boat technologies, this all carbon fiber motor boat has been developed to sail at high speed while being stable and safe. Its foils draw their inspiration from the flying boats of the America's Cup.

With its retractable hydrofoils (just press a button) it can either float on the water, when they are deployed, and therefore navigate fast (about 45 knots) reducing water drag, and therefore reducing consumption. Or sail at low speed or moor when they are up. Its technology makes it possible to enjoy safe and comfortable sailing, by eliminating the uncomfortable vibrations and jolts of a conventional motorboat generated by chop.

Thanks to its customizable features, it meets the various requirements of owners. It is available in three different deck configurations: GT, Tender (cockpit limo) and Pro (Open cockpit).

An HY-41 hybrid prototype has already been created to promote environmentally friendly boating. The aim: to reduce pollution from pleasure boats without impairing their performance. With its retractable foils and customizable transmission system, the HY-41's fuel consumption can be reduced by at least 30%, while sailing faster, smoother and more comfortably. In 2014, the HY-X, an experimental prototype on a smaller scale, generated great interest when it was presented at the hydrocontest. The aim of this international competition, which brings together universities, institutions and industrialists, is to build innovative boats of the future at the service of energy innovation.

The HY-41 has now been put into production by Enata and will soon be available on order.
