How can you follow the start of the 2016 Vendée Globe from home?

On 6th November 2016, the 29 solo sailors in the Vendée Globe will set off from Les Sables-d'Olonne for a round the world voyage lasting several months via the three capes. The public present in Port Olonna will be able to cheer on the sailors from the piers lining the channel. For the others, numerous media will be broadcasting live the start of the legendary race.

The Vendée Globe is a legendary race that only takes place every four years. In terms of audience, it is a bit like being compared to the Football World Cup. On the pontoons, millions of visitors flock to come and greet the sailors before the big start. But from Saturday 5 November, the pontoons will be closed to the public and accessible only to teams and families.

An important media device

The departure will therefore be followed either from the ground - on the piers along the channel for example - or from its screen or radio... For your information, 33 television channels will broadcast the departure live at 1:02 pm. An exceptional system, on land and at sea, will enable the start of the Vendée Globe to be followed in the best possible conditions. A multi-camera system (3 helicopter cameras, 2 cameras on the water, 2 cameras ashore and 5 cameras on board the boats) will enable the start of the race to be followed from all angles, including from the boats of five skippers: Paul Meilhat, Thomas Ruyant, Sébastien Josse, Fabrice Amedeo and Vincent Riou.
