For a man overboard, the best chance of not perishing at sea is to stay attached to his boat. But how do you get back on board when you're dragged overboard? How do you get out of this bad situation when, fully dressed, boots full of water, you have to climb aboard?
With this in mind, the Design 4 Sea team has designed a lanyard that can be transformed into a hoist and allows you to climb back on board without outside assistance. Its use requires training but once understood, it can be used by any crew member, whatever his physical strength.
The lanyard is built with 3 webbing hoists. Each hoist is stored in a cover closed with Velcro. The fallen crew member opens the first Velcro, grasps the strap and hoists himself to the 2 e hoist. Identical operation up to 3 e hoist. Once at the top, the lanyard offers 2 stirrups to provide support under the feet to get on board.
This year, the product evolves with a version to be adapted over a lanyard you already own. This solution has been designed so that runners who have to use approved lanyards can continue to use their equipment. The Néréïde lanyard is added on top of the original lanyard (hence the name "Plugin"). A boater who will not have any homologation constraints will be able to use the simpler Néréïde "Classic" model.
All this equipment ("Classic" and "Plugin" lanyards) will be presented at the Grand-Pavois in La Rochelle (from 28 September to 3 October 2016) on the Croix du Sud Marine stand.
