Why put down the Vendée Globe sailboats?

We often see images of vendée Globe yachts lying on their flanks in the harbour. Why put them in this incongruous situation? Simply to check that they're responding to the IMOCA gauge.

He explains the masthead scale as well as the various measurements on the boat so that the measurer can check that it is in line with the IMOCA class measurements.
