GT5, the big cruise according to Elan

For Elan, sailing away doesn't mean dragging. As proof, this shipyard is converting the hull of his racer into a luxurious cruising yacht for a small crew.

Elan expands its range with the announcement of the ElanGT5. It positions it as a fast cruising yacht (GT stands for Gran Turismo, the new name of this range which aims to combine performance, easy navigation and elegance). This 40-footer is signed like all the other models in Rob Humphreys' pencil.

To design this boat, the architect has evolved the hull of that of the late-Elan 400 now marketed under the name of E5 and S5. The hull of the GT5 will be longer to support more weight in the fittings. It is characterized by a double rudder and a "T" keel. A large tilting skirt completes the aft end of this model.

For short-handed sailing

The deck plan of this boat has been designed to be manoeuvred with a reduced crew, a couple for example. All the halyards and sheets return to the helm station by passing under the coamings so as not to create traps when moving around the deck. The same goes for the mainsail sheet, which is the same as the German one, which comes back on each side. Thus the front of the cockpit is reserved for idleness.

Some 3D views show a dolphin which holds the anchor and can be used as a bowsprit for downwind sails (asymmetrical spinnaker, code 0)

A reverse layout plan

On the GT5, the galley is positioned along the masthead bulkhead, across the entire width of the boat. A layout that is already known on the Dufour and which offers the advantage of opening a large saloon at the foot of the companionway.

This yacht will be available in 2 or 3 cabins with 1 or 2 bathrooms.

This boat is announced for the beginning of 2017.
