Les Voiles d'Antibes, the first European meeting of the Panerai Classic Yachts Challenge


The Mediterranean circuit of the Panerai Classic Yachts Challenge 2016 will start on Wednesday 1st June with the Voiles d'Antibes. 75 vintage and traditional yachts will be gathered in the bay of Antibes to win the Trophy at the end of the 4 regattas.

Several anniversaries, including two centenarians

Two yachts will celebrate their centenary this year in Antibes: the Bermudan cutter Rowdy and the auric cutter Chinook, which left the American shipyard Herreshoff in 1916. These yachts both belong to the New York 40 category, which includes boats built between 1916 and 1926 on behalf of the New York Yacht Club. Rowdy has already won the Panerai Trophy in his category in 2008, 2010 and 2011, while Chinook took the lead in 2014.

A veteran among the veterans

The oldest sailboat present at Les Voiles d'Antibes will be Lulu, an 1897 auric cutter of about 15 metres, classified as a historical monument. The smallest boat in the competition will be Cabrufa (7.60 m), a 1970 Folkboat.

Four races for a winner

The four regattas scheduled from Thursday to Sunday will take place between Antibes Bay and Juan-les-Pins. The awards ceremony will be held on Sunday afternoon in front of the wharf.
