At the end of January 2016, Furuno created a buzz by releasing a video on the internet that we presented here . We could discover there radar images with colored dots without more explanation. We know today a little more about this new model of radar called NXT (for NeXT generation) as you can discover it in the video available at the end of this article.
The new DRS4D-NXT is a magnetron-free pulse compression Broadband Doppler radar. It is equipped with a 24" (61 cm) radome with a power of 25 W that does not require a warm-up time. The radar is connected to the display by an Ethernet cable.
This new model is distinguished by 4 new and very innovative features:
Target Analyzer
Using Doppler technology, the radar automatically and continuously calculates the movements of all targets. Those that are potentially dangerous change color and are displayed in red. The others remain in green. This way, you can directly identify on the screen the ship that is coming towards you and that you must avoid. In addition, this mode allows you to differentiate between echoes from fixed points (a buoy, for example) and those from moving vessels that are coming toward you. With this feature, the reading becomes much clearer.
RezBoost âeuros Beam Reducer
This feature is used to get a very sharp, accurate picture, especially when approaching obstacles. Activating this feature narrows the radar's beam. The details stand out from each other.
Birds mode
Anglers will appreciate this, the Furuno radar features a bird mode that automatically adjusts to fine tune the gain and filters to detect bird hunting. And any fisherman knows, if there are birds, there are fishâ?¦
Fast Target Tracking
Fast Target Tracking replaces ARPA. It avoids collisions by presenting a vector v heading and speed on the targets (more than 100 simultaneous targets). This is a guarantee of safety. This vector changes color: red for targets with a risk of collision, green for the others. A collision alarm (TCPA) is also available. The maximum range of this mode is 3 MN.
This model works with the Furuno TZT9, TZT14, TZTL12F and TZTL15F multifunction displays.
