Open C29, a French day boat

For its C29, Open C Yachts chose an epoxy plywood construction. An economical choice to avoid investments in molds.

Behind the new sailboat brand Open C Yachts (pronounced Open Sea Yachts) hides a well-known figure in the nautical world. Thomas Duhen has been organizing import-export of sailboats for several years now, mainly between France, the United States and Brazil. It is his card of distributor of Archambault sailboats for the United States which brought him closer to the shipyard until he bought it 2 years ago. Unfortunately, he was unable to turn it around and had to abandon the project in early 2015.

This experience as a builder showed him the difficulty of making a tooling (molds) profitable to build small series. This is why he is now moving towards the construction of units that do not require this investment. The first model of the Open C Yachts range will be in epoxy plywood.

The C29 (for 29 feet, 8.80 m) was designed by the architect Paolo Bua. It is a fast day boat with a small cabin (4 beds). The boat will have to go fast, glide, and entertain the crew even if it is reduced and is not limited by a gauge. A kind of modern and fun sled.

With its inverted bow, chine (due to CP construction but very fashionable at the moment), retractable bowsprit and large cockpit, the design is very attractive. The C29 will be equipped with a lifting keel and a single deep rudder (bi-safran optional).

The C29 will be built in La Rochelle by a subcontractor. It is proposed in board version ready to sail at 90 0000 euros TTC without sails. A version with outboard engine will be proposed at 65 000 euros.
