An underwater hotel to save coral reefs

Planet Ocean Underwater Hotel

A luxury underwater hotel 28 feet below the sea surface is expected to open in Florida, USA. But the Planet Ocean Underwater Hotel will also have a philanthropic mission, the safeguarding of coral reefs.

The Planet Ocean Underwater Hotel is a luxury underwater hotel to be built in Key West, Florida. Imagined by visionary Tony Webb, this hotel will be located 28 feet below the sea surface and access will be by elevator. And this project is not a utopia, since its designer obtained its construction patents in the United States, to install its prototype.

The underwater hotel is able to live in total autonomy since it produces its own electricity, its own fresh water and reprocesses its waste. Moreover, in case of bad weather, it is able to move thanks to an electromechanical propulsion.

But Webb's ultimate goal is also to fund and implement global coral reef restoration and aquaculture solutions and technologies. "I wanted to find a fun and entertaining way to raise awareness about the destruction of the coral reef," he explains.

The hotel will be constructed of double thickness welded steel and 60 thick acrylic sheets. It will consist of a central tube and 12 small tubes connected to the central platform. This shape was chosen because of its ability to maintain uniform pressure created by the surrounding water.

There are twelve rooms, with lounge and dining room, a large spacious shower room, king size bed, HD TV, Wifi for music and Internet access, adjustable LED lighting and room service. Of course, each occupant will enjoy a breathtaking view of the underwater flora and fauna "Every suite or pod is furnished and furnished with all the comfort and amenities you'd expect."

The rate will be between $3,000 and $6,000 (?2783 and 5568 €) for two underwater suites and two additional guests accommodated in the 63-foot catamaran.

For now it will be installed in the translucent waters of Florida, but the ultimate goal is to develop it in the Indian Ocean, Red Sea and Persian Gulf: Maldives, Mauritius, Seychelles, Dubai, Isarel and Egypt. But also in South Asia, the Pacific or the Caribbean.
