Antoine Albeau, world windsurfing champion for the 23rd time

This Sunday, November 29, the New Caledonian Funboard World Cup event came to an end. After a week of suspenseful competition, the French finally shone in this final in Noumea.

Albeau fulfills his contract

While we expected a battle between Antoine Albeau, winner in 2014 and the Italian Matteo Iachino, leader before the beginning of the event, it is finally between French that the title was fought. Indeed, from the first day of the competition, the Italian skirted the finish line in the first heat to be disqualified in the second, after having taken a premature start. Antoine Albeau broke two masts in the first race. And Pierre Mortefon was placed at the 1st place re place of the event.

But finally, the week allowed the Rhétais to move up in the rankings. Thus, he finished 4th e of the Caledonian event, which allows him to keep his title of world champion. Contract fulfilled for Antoine Albeau who wins a 23 e world title.

3 - Matteo Iachino

"I had a bad start to the week with a first day that was a bit catastrophic, but I climbed back up in the rankings on the different slaloms afterwards. I knew I had to finish no higher than 4th, it all came down to the last day. I'm really super happy, I went for it in the battle and it's a 23rd world title, so obviously I'm on a little cloud."

Pierre Mortefon wins here his second stage victory with brio, after a first victory on the PWA circuit, a little earlier in the season, in Alacati. His great performance allows him to take place on the world podium. Equal points with Antoine Albeau on the 2015 total, it is the number of times one finishes ahead of the other, which split them. The 26 year old windsurfer thus takes the title of vice world champion.

"I'm really super happy with this new stage win. It was incredible this week, I was consistent in all the heats. I arrived in Noumea with the 3rd place and I leave with the title of Vice World Champion, ex aequo of points with Antoine. Last year I was on the left side of the podium, this year on the right and I hope next year I will be on top! Obviously, I would have liked to win the World Champion title, but I'm happy to have shown that I can be counted on from now on!"

Cyril Moussilmani, Vice World Champion 2014, had a great week, which allows him to take the 3rd place e place on the podium, 100% French. With this world podium, he finishes at the 8 e position in the general ranking, just behind his compatriot Julien Quentel, 7th in the world, who has shown consistency throughout the year.

In the women's category, Delphine Cousin, two-time defending World Champion, also shone in the Caledonian event. And it is quite naturally, after 7 slaloms won out of the 10 contested, that she takes the victory in Noumea. She thus takes the title of 2015 World Vice-Champion, just behind Sarah-Quita Offringa, who had secured the victory, well before Noumea, by securing a maximum of points.
