Emergency repair kit, a patch to do everything

You wonder how the Vendée Globe racers carry out repairs on their boats? They dispense with a 3-in-1 kit - fabric, resin, hardener - ready to use, which takes under water and in all temperatures like the one we are presenting here.

Clarisse Cremer comes to repair a leak in the night on the daggerboard well of her IMOCA Banque Populaire. For this she used a 3 in 1 kit.

Presented in a plastic tube, the Sinto Marine Emergency Repair Kit contains the fabric, the resin and its hardener. By mixing the ingredients through the plastic bag, you avoid getting dirty and you are sure of the dosage.

This epoxy resin which cures under water has a very large setting range: from 0 to 45°C. The drying time, however, is not instantaneous as it takes 35 minutes at 22° and 1h20 at 5°.

This composite repair system is based on a 45° biaxial fibreglass fabric of 600 g/m2 with a size of 21 x 40 cm. Delivered with a pair of blue plastic gloves, the product is very easy to use. It only requires a pair of scissors or a cutter in addition to the kit.

Even if you don't need the whole surface of the patch, you are obliged to consume it entirely. If you only want small pieces, you can mark the parts to be cut out with the marker on the plastic once the mixture has been made.

This patch will be very handy to repair a broken bulkhead or even a damaged spars. On the other hand, it is not advisable to plug a leak in a hull below the waterline. Indeed, with the pressure of the water, it is not possible to keep the patch in place for the time it takes to set.

This ready-to-use kit from Sinto Marine is available at 69 euros
