Kitesurfing and windsurfing competitions at the Mondial du Vent in Leucate (11)


The Mondial du vent, international event of reference in kitesurfing and windsurfing, will take place from the 18th to the 26th of April in Leucate, in the Aude, on the site of La Franqui.

This 19 e edition will gather, as every year, the elite of kitesurfing and windsurfing, and will welcome this year, two new freestyle competitions, the XTrem Air in kitesurfing and the only French stage of the PWA windsurfing World Cup. The best athletes in the world in these two disciplines will be present and for the first time, the international waterman Kai Lenny will come to give stand up paddle lessons. This outstanding surfer has just won the first stage of the World Tour of Wave Stand Up Paddle in Hawaii. He will coach the young paddlers from April 22 to 26.

On the other hand, as every year, the Village de la Glisse will offer many animations, in addition to the competitions. Events and activities for the whole family will be organized in partnership with UCPA and Sosh.

Many competitions on the program

This year, no less than 5 competitions of kitesurfing, windsurfing or a combination of the two disciplines, or SUP, will be on the program. For this 19 e edition, two new competitions are on the program, the XTrem Air in kitesurfing, and the only French stage of the PWA World Cup in freestyle windsurfing.

X'Trem Air from April 18 to 23

This event consists in performing impressive tricks in kitesurfing. The kitesurfing elite will be rated by a jury. Will be taken into account for the scoring: the height of the jump, the time in the air, the style, the positioning of the kite, the variety of the tricks and the landing. The goal of the event is to go higher and higher and to stay in the air as long as possible while showing the greatest creativity. PWA Freestyle World Cup from April 21 to 25

This will be the only French stage of the PWA windsurfing freestyle World Cup. The best windsurfers from all over the world will compete on extreme tricks and jumps. The Frenchmen Nicolas Akgasciyan and Adrien Bosson, members of Team France Windsurf, will be present, as well as the best international freestylers like José Gollito Estredo (Ven) and Elton Taty Frans (Ned).

Sosh Cup from April 18 to 23

This 5 e edition of the Sosh Cup will see kitesurfers and windsurfers compete in speed runs. Alexandre Caizergues (FRA), three times world speed champion, and world speed record holder in kitesurfing at 56.62 knots (104.86 km/h), will be there, as well as Rob Douglas (USA), Charlotte Consorti (FRA), world champion in kitespeed and Antoine Albeau (FRA), 22 times world champion in windsurfing and speed record holder in windsurfing with 52.05 knots. In 2014, it was the kitesurfers who took the lead thanks to the victory of Rob Douglas. They put their title back on the line, facing the windsurfers.

Sosh Cup Pro Am from April 24 to 26

This kitesurfing event will once again focus on long distance. The race format remains the same as in previous years with a sporting event in which amateurs will ride with champions Alexandre Caizergues, Rob Douglas or Charlotte Consorti. Last year, more than 80 kites were deployed in the sky of La Franqui.

Crédit Agricole Stand-up paddle days from April 25 to 26

Stand-up paddling has become an essential event of the Mondial du Vent. This year, a first Downwind SUPAA race will be reserved for professional riders and a second one accessible to all on the beach (Beach Race).
