This year, Surfrider celebrates the 20th anniversary of its emblematic program, the Ocean Initiatives. The launch of this 20 e This year's edition will take place from Thursday, March 19 to Sunday, March 22, with subsequent collections throughout the year. This operation consists in collecting waste on beaches, lakes, rivers and sea beds and it is the citizens who participate! With a European objective, it raises awareness of the problem of aquatic waste.
"Every second, 206 kg of plastic waste is dumped into the oceans. 100% of the waste found on beaches is of human origin."
Thursday 19 and Friday 20 March were dedicated to school and extracurricular corporate actions, but this weekend, the operations of sports clubs and the general public will take place. The Tide of the Century is a timely event for the association as thousands of people are expected to attend this spectacular event on the French coast. It is therefore the ideal moment to make the general public aware of the actions undertaken by the association The Ocean Initiatives, via waste collections, allow the citizen to become aware of the pollution of the aquatic environment and to consider certain solutions."

Changing the consumption of citizens
Through these initiatives, Surfrider seeks to change the behavior of citizens, which begins with the act of purchasing. " Each citizen can act daily against this problem by adopting a few reflexes: by reducing his consumption of plastic products; by reusing them; by recycling his waste; by refusing the omnipresence of plastic and by participating in the Ocean Initiatives."

To participate, simply go to the Initiatives Ocean website and register for the collection that interests us.
