Bulk carrier devastates Norwegian marina


As it tries to leave the harbour, the Cyprus Cement destroys many pleasure boats and causes great damage within the marina. Even if the accident is due to a breakdown, the cargo ship nevertheless tried to sneak away...

The scene takes place in Norway, in the Levanger marina, in Trondheimsfjorden. The Bulk Carrier Cyprus Cement while manoeuvring out of port crushed about fifteen pleasure boats, destroyed pontoons and other wharves. The port suffered many damages, but fortunately no serious injuries were reported. This was a bow thruster failure. Despite the accident, the cargo vessel attempted to leave port but was quickly intercepted by the Coast Guard and kept under control during the investigation.

The total damage was estimated at NOK 1 million, or ? 115 780 €.

The Cyprus Cement is a cement transport cargo ship 97 metres long and 17.3 metres wide. It was built in 2002 by the Damen Galati shipyard in Romania. It has a gross tonnage of 4069 tons.
