DCNS continues to solidify its union with the Egyptian defense industry, as the FREMM contract joins the one signed last July for the delivery of four Godwind 2500 corvettes.

The new frigate is none other than the current Normandie, and will undergo a number of refits before delivery in mid-2015. Training for the Egyptian navy will begin during the works, and will continue for several years, as will logistical support.
Hervé Guillou added " With this historic agreement, DCNS has entered into a long-term partnership with the Egyptian Navy and its shipyards, with whom we intend to invest over the long term to develop skills and industrial facilities. In addition, the strengthening of our relationship offers us new prospects for ship sales."
The FREMM to be delivered to the Egyptian government will be taken from the series currently being built for the French Navy. DCNS is therefore committed to increasing its production capacity so as not to fall behind the other vessels.
In conclusion, the Chairman and CEO of DCNS said "I would like to emphasize that this success would not have been possible without a close-knit French team and the unfailing support of French government departments, and in particular the Direction Générale de l'Armement and the French Navy, which agreed to postpone delivery of its second frigate."
