Extreme Sailing Series - Who are the nine crews?

The Extreme Sailing Series opened today in Singapore Bay. This is an opportunity to discover the nine crews participating in the circuit until next December.

Nine crews are participating in this 9th edition of the Extreme Sailing Series, coming from all over the world. The crews are British, Russian, Italian, Omani, Austrian, Danish, Singaporean or Turkish. The sailors on the teams come from Australia, Russia, New Zealand, Italy, Oman, Great Britain and Austria. Of the 45 sailors involved, there are only two Frenchmen and one woman.

GAC Pindar (Great Britain)

Steve Jarvin will be participating in his 2 ème season and will share his position with four-time Match Racing Champion Ian Williams. The team will be completed by two former GAC Pindar teammates from last year, Australians James Wierzbowski and Tyson Lymond, who will be joined by two other Australian champions, Jack Macartney and Marcus Ashley-Jones, who specialize in 18-foot skiff.

Gazprom Team Russia (RUS)

For the 2 ème this season, the Russian Olympic Laserist, Igor Lisovenko, takes over the leadership of the team, accompanied by two compatriots, including Alexander Bozhko. Phil Robertson, a New Zealander and match racing specialist will be at the helm and Garth Ellingham will be the trimmer. The latter two are teammates on Waka Racing.

Lino Sonego Team Italia (ITA)

This new syndicate for the year will be led by Lorenzo Bressani, twice nominated for the title of ISAF Sailor of the Year. Enrico Zennaro and Gabriele Olivo, along with their skipper, have a combined total of 20 world championship titles in various classes. The team will be completed by two British sailors, Adam Kay and Tom Buggy, both Extreme 40 connoisseurs.

Oman Air (OMA)

Stevie Morrison, 49er World Champion will be joining the circuit for the first time and will lead the Oman Air team. He will be joined by teammates Ed Powys (Team GB) and Nic Asher (Team GB). Ted Hackney and Ali Balashi will be back for a 2 ème year.

Red Bull Sailing Team (AUT)

The Austrian crew will include one newcomer, skipper Jason Waterhouse from the Red Bull Youth America's Cup. The rest of the crew will be made up of the Austrian double Olympic gold medalist duo, Hagara and Steinacher, New Zealander Stewart Dodson and Briton Shaun Mason for whom this will be the second time they have sailed together ème year.

SAP Extreme Sailing Team (DEN)

The Danish team will make its 4 ème participation on the circuit with co-skippers Jes Gram-Hansen and Rasmus Kostner. The only two French sailors in the Series, Brad Farrand and Thierry Douillard, will be back on board with a newcomer, Mads Emil Stephensen, silver medallist at the 49er World Championships.

Team Aberdeen (SIN)

The Singaporean team will have a number of international sailing talents on board. Australian skipper Nick Moloney will be joined by fellow Australian Adam Beashel, an America's Cup and lightweight sailor, and Briton Tom Dawson, a former Team GB crew member and veteran Extreme 40 sailor, while lightweight sailor Freddie White and Asian Games gold medalist Justin Wong will complete the crew.

Team TURX (TUR)

This new syndicate for 2015 will be led by a great Extreme 40 specialist and co-creator of the class, Mitch Booth, who will share the role of skipper with Turkish multihull racing specialist Edhem Dirvana. Two members of the Turkish national sailing team will also be on board Selim Kakis and Anil Berk Baki. The Portuguese Diogo Cayolla will complete this trio, participating for the 1st time in the World Cup era the entire season.

The Wave, Muscat (OMA)

The Omani team, two-time Series winner and 2014 runner-up, will once again be led by British Olympian Leigh McMillan with the same crew as last year: Pete Greenhalgh, Sarah Ayton, two-time Olympic gold medalist and the only woman on the circuit, Ed Smyth, from the America's Cup, and Omani crew member Nasser Al Mashari. All of them have the objective of recovering their title.
