Thomas Traversa, the new world champion in windsurfing

At 28 years old and 18 years after Patrice Belbeoc'h, a Frenchman is again crowned world champion in wave windsurfing.

Tonight, at the end of the windsurfing season and after a breathless finale, Thomas Traversa became the new windsurfing world champion. The verdict was given at the final round of the 2014 PWA World Tour, the Starboard Severne PWA Aloha Classic in Hookipa, Hawaii, tonight at 11:30 pm for us (12:30 am in Hawaii).

Thomas started the season with a win in the Red Bull Storm Chase and despite finishing ninth in the first World Cup race, he went on to score a string of wins. He took the 2nd ème place in Tenerife (Spain), the victory in Klitmoller (Denmark) and again the 2 ème place in La Torche (France).

A decisive first place

Thomas Traversa had to face his main opponent, Victor Fernandez, Spanish windsurfer. The Frenchman, who declared before the competition " We'll have to give our all and not rely on the weaknesses of others." was able to take advantage of the failures of others. Victor failed to qualify for the final and finished 4th ème of the ranking, which allowed Thomas to get the 1 era place, even before taking the test.

The young Frenchman is ranked in 2 ème position behind the American Morgan Noireaux in the final. He is the second Frenchman to win the world champion title, 18 years after Patrice Belbeoc'h.
