Route du Rhum 2014, imminent opening of the village

While the Route du Rhum competitors will set off from Saint-Malo in 19 days, the village will open its doors on October 24, a few days before the start.

In less than ten days, Saint-Malo will bring together sailing enthusiasts and fans of the Transatlantic solo race . Indeed, the village will open its doors on October 24, to offer many activities on an area of over 8,000 m2. Guadeloupe, country of welcome of the Rhum sailors since the first edition will be exceptionally present in the village and in the city.

October 24 is also the day when the 91 skippers involved must moor their boats at the docks of the corsair city. For the occasion, about 2 million visitors are expected, who will be able to discover, in addition to the sailors, the 150 exhibitors around the Duguay-Trouin and Vauban basins. The 300 volunteers will not be too many to welcome all this crowd.

Numerous events on sea and land

Every day, nautical animations will be presented in the heart of the Duguay Trouin and Vauban basins and on the Eventail beach: Optimist and Laser regattas, Light Sails 35 Trophy, Handivoile, Schol'Aviron, Stand-up Paddle, kayak, sand yacht, windsurfing, catamaran, Muscadet regattas, traditional boats and Doris.

On the ground, many animations will also take place like musical wanderings, sea songs, carnival groups, dances of Guadeloupe without forgetting Breton music. Come to find all these groups on the Esplanade Saint-Vincent, the place of the Pilori, the fosse aux Lions and the place of the Lamennaos brothers.

Guadeloupe in the spotlight

The Guadeloupe region will be installed under the Guadeloupe Pavilion to present its typical dishes and flavors as well as its agricultural wealth. You will be able to eat at the local gastronomic restaurant and participate in the musical and cultural animations. Two mythical groups from Guadeloupe will come to the island to introduce the visitors to the carnival, one of the island's cultural highlights. A renowned teacher will give creole lessons and about fifty companies will present the diversity of the island's activities: crafts, agriculture, tourism, training in sea-related professions, boat rentalsâ?¦

A special village for children

Since we will be in the middle of school vacations, an entire village will be dedicated to children, " The Ty Choux ". Activities will await the younger ones such as cooking workshops, boat races, wooden games, a wind tunnel and many giveaways. " The Prince's Gardens "Children will also be welcomed in a playful and instructive space, rich in discoveries.
