Made in Italy, TREM and building a long-term equipment manufacturer

Born in Emilia Romagna in the late 1960s, TREM has grown up with modern yachting. From a small-scale production of ropes, the company has become a nautical equipment manufacturer with a presence in a wide range of markets. Here's a look back at a long industrial history.

In the world of marine equipment, some companies have survived the decades quietly, but steadily. TREM, for Trecciatura Emiliana, is one such company, whose growth has taken place in stages, in step with the needs of boats and the evolution of yachting. Its story began far from the big yachting basins, in a garage in the Bologna region.

The origins of a craft business

On February 9, 1968, Franco Marzaduri founded Trecciatura Emiliana in Ozzano dell'Emilia, just outside Bologna. The initial business was modest. The company produced turnbuckles for bicycles and car luggage racks. Handcrafted, focused on the mastery of weaving and materials.

Production soon shifted to ropes. In the early 1970s, the sailing and nautical industries emerged as natural outlets. The first rope ends dedicated to marine use leave the workshop. This marked TREM's gradual entry into the nautical sector.

From ropes to on-board equipment

Over the years, the company built up its production facilities. In 1975, new premises were created to support the company's increased output. In 1982, the first large-scale industrial site was inaugurated. The logic changed. The aim was no longer simply to produce, but to organize a coherent range and industrial capacity.

At the same time, TREM's product range is expanding. Alongside ropes, TREM is developing nautical accessories for boat equipment. From fittings and safety equipment to instrumentation, deck accessories and engine components, the company is gradually building up an extensive catalog, aimed at both pleasure boaters and professionals.

Gradual, controlled industrialization

TREM's history is marked by a gradual expansion. New workshops were created, notably for plastic molding and logistics. Technical teams specialize, and processes are structured to meet the demands of modern boating.

Today, TREM operates on over 20,000 m² of industrial space. Thousands of references make up the catalog. This organization makes it possible to respond to varied volumes, while maintaining close control over product quality and consistency.

A presence beyond the Italian market

While its Italian roots remain central, TREM has gradually turned its attention to export. Today, the brand's products can be found aboard ships sailing in the Mediterranean, as well as in many ports outside Europe.

This international presence is based on a combination of factors. A wide range of products, capable of covering many on-board needs. Reliable production. And an image associated with Made in Italy, perceived as a guarantee of reliability and continuity.

Continuing to evolve without breaking with history

More than half a century after its creation, TREM continues to develop without denying its origins. The road we have travelled since our garage in Ozzano dell'Emilia illustrates a trajectory made up of successive adaptations, rather than sudden breaks.

In a boating sector subject to sometimes unstable economic cycles, this ability to build for the long term remains an asset. For professionals and yachtsmen alike, TREM embodies a type of equipment manufacturer that is discreet, but firmly anchored in the European and international yachting landscape.
