Mirapakon, a novel antifouling developed in Canada

The Canadian Mirakapon announces miracles with its MK300 antifouling, which does not pollute, does not release anything into the water and seems to be much more effective than current antifoulings. Brand new, this product looks really interesting on paper. Long-term trials will validate its effectiveness.

Mirapakon MK300 is an antifouling from Canada. It presents itself as a transparent film on which living matter has difficulty fixing itself. Thus presented, one immediately thinks of a film containing Silicone, but according to the manufacturer the material used does not contain the least Silicone. What is it about? It is"a chemical formulation that sends a message to living organisms to repel them. That is the explanation we are given, but no more detail on this chemical formulation. We will not be able to find out more about this message'.

In principle, the solution is good to limit fouling. By acting at the source, i.e. by reducing the fatty film, we break the chain of colonization of the fouling. Without a base, without the first hitch, the larger colonizers (which feed on the smaller ones) do not attach themselves to the hull.

Mirapakon

The MK300 makes the hull very slippery. When Mirapakon is applied, as liquid as water, it penetrates all the roughnesses of the material. It can be applied with a brush, roller or spray gun. Slightly sticky (like a varnish), it does not run. This is impressive on a new hull, because this antifouling can be applied directly on the gel coat, without primer paint, just on the degreased hull.

Mirapakon

Mirapakon MK300 is applied in a very thin layer. It therefore has a very high covering power (twice that of a paint) of 20 to 30 m2/l. It can be applied on all surfaces even on aluminium or on a bronze propeller for example. Currently being tested in various parts of the world (in France on a Delher and a Tricat), the public price of this product is not yet fixed with precision, but should be around 190 €/l. The brand is looking for a distributor for France.
