Fendress rodent protection disc: a solution for securing your mooring lines

At METS, Fendress, already renowned for its nautical accessories, presented an innovative anti-rat disc to protect boat mooring lines. Easy to install thanks to a pivoting system, this equipment designed for 16 to 48 mm ropes should appeal to yachtsmen looking for effective solutions against pests.

A device designed for mooring lines

Protecting mooring lines from rodents is becoming a priority in some ports, where rats and other rodents proliferate. The Fendress rat-proof disc is a simple and practical answer to this problem. With its 45 cm diameter, it is suitable for ropes measuring between 16 and 48 mm in diameter. The device is designed to prevent rats from climbing up the mooring lines to the boat deck, a classic entry point for these pests.

Simplified installation

The mechanism is based on two pivoting half-discs which open to let the rope through, before closing again under the effect of a sturdy stainless steel spring. This design makes installation a snap, even for inexperienced sailors. We've seen this kind of product before, but its ease of use and adaptability to all rope diameters make it particularly effective.

Materials tested for durability

Currently a prototype manufactured by 3D printing, the anti-rat disc is set to evolve into a robust final version resistant to marine conditions. The choice of materials will be crucial to ensure prolonged use, particularly in salty environments where wear and tear can be rapid. The stainless steel spring, already incorporated in the prototype, bears witness to this concern for durability.

Preventing intrusions: a cost-effective solution

Fendress plans to market this product at a price of ?40 plus VAT, a reasonable sum given its functionality. This price makes it accessible to a wide range of yachtsmen, whether they own small sailboats or larger yachts. Compared to the potential damage caused by rats on board, the investment is minimal.
