Yanmar E-Saildrive: Emission-free electric propulsion for sailing

Yanmar Marine International unveiled its first electric propulsion system, the E-Saildrive, at the Cannes Boat Show. Designed for easy installation on sailboats up to 12 meters in length, the system aims to simplify the transition to emission-free electric sailing. A product that marks a step forward in the electrification of the nautical sector.

The world of pleasure boating is undergoing a revolution with the arrival of electric propulsion solutions. With this in mind, Yanmar, known for its inboard diesel engines, presents its very first electric product: the E-Saildrive. This system is aimed at sailors wishing to make the transition to clean, emission-free navigation, while maintaining the brand's standards.

An ecological alternative for pleasure boating

With the increasing electrification of propulsion systems, boaters are looking for alternatives to combustion engines. Yanmar's E-Saildrive offers an electric solution that eliminates CO2 emissions, thus reducing the environmental impact of boating. This system meets a demand from environmentally conscious boaters, while offering power suitable for yachts up to 40 feet (12 meters).

Easy installation: Plug & Play for sailboats

The E-Saildrive system stands out for its ease of installation. Designed as a direct replacement for Yanmar YM engines, it makes it possible to go electric without major hull modifications. This not only facilitates the adoption of this technology by builders, but also enables easy retrofitting for owners wishing to opt for clean propulsion. Thanks to its "plug and play" architecture, installation of the motor and its components is quick and intuitive.

Three models to meet different needs

The E-Saildrive is available in three models of increasing power: SDe7, SDe10, and SDe15, offering up to 15 kW of power. This choice allows sailors to adapt the motorization to the weight and specific needs of their craft. Yanmar's focus here is on flexibility to adapt to different types of yachts, while ensuring a smooth transition to electric power.

Reliable technology based on recognized know-how

Yanmar, with its century of experience in propulsion, applies the same reliability standards to the E-Saildrive as it does to its internal combustion engines. Boaters benefit from the same robustness and worldwide after-sales service, with over 2,000 distributors in 130 countries. What's more, electric motors require less maintenance than internal combustion engines.

A modern, intuitive control system

One of the great new features of this range is the on-board control system. The 4.3" TFT display is water-resistant (IPX7), guaranteeing optimum legibility in all conditions. The user interface has been designed to be both modern and ergonomic, with controls available in side or top-mounted versions, all in a contemporary alloy design.
