After a plane tree fell at the end of February 2024 on the Tersac bridge, and faced with the risk of collapse, VNF had decided to shut down river navigation on the Canal Latéral à la Garonne between lock n°46 (Bernès) and lock n°47 (Gravières).
Demolition of the bridge has begun
Irreparable, the bridge will finally be demolished by Val de Garonne Agglomération, owner of the roadway. The work will require considerable effort, and is expected to last until the end of the month. The canal in reach 47 needs to be drained to protect the clay bottom from damage caused by demolition debris, and then refilled. As a reminder, the bridge also housed two power lines and a water network.
Back to navigation possible from July 29
Work will take place from July 8 to 26, 2024, so navigation could resume from July 29, depending on the risks associated with the site.
To regulate the influx, VNF has indicated that it may set up lock passage times for the reopening of navigation. Freight and passenger boats will have priority over pleasure craft.
