Towards greener river tourism with rental company and builder Nicols

For the 2024 season, Nicols, builder and charterer of riverboats, is announcing boats using HVO as fuel. A novelty that goes hand in hand with environmental protection.

Since April 2024, Nicols, renowned in the world of river tourism for its no-license boat rentals, has been making a significant ecological shift. The company, part of the Locaboat Group, recently announced the conversion of its fleet in Saverne, Alsace, to HVO (Hydrotreated Vegetable Oil) fuel.

HVO as a fuel for boats

This choice of fuel, derived from renewable resources, stands out for its ability to reduce CO2 emissions, NOx and fine particles, demonstrating Nicols' commitment to sustainable river tourism. This initiative is part of the company's overall drive to reduce its carbon footprint, having identified that traditional fuel consumption accounts for around 25% of its total emissions.

Expertise in riverboat construction and rental

Established over 35 years ago, Nicols is both a builder and a charterer of river boats. This dual role gives us full control over the design and supply of our boats, from the construction of the hull to the customized fittings.

Operating from its Cholet site in the Maine-et-Loire region, Nicols is committed to production autonomy, giving it the freedom to offer a wide range of boats to suit a variety of needs and preferences, while guaranteeing optimum quality and comfort.

A major player in river tourism, committed and innovative

In addition to its conversion to HVO, Nicols is demonstrating its commitment to the environment through a number of initiatives, including the construction of 100% electric boats from 2018, offering silent, non-polluting navigation. Obtaining the Pavillon Bleu label for the port of Saverne also underlines the environmental quality and sustainable management of nautical spaces by this rental company. Through its concrete actions and innovation, Nicols aims to establish itself as a key player in European river tourism, sailing towards a greener future.
