A paradise in the heart of Scilly

The Isle of Tresco is a small paradise in the Scilly archipelago of southwest England. It is the second largest island in the archipelago, covering an area of 297 hectares. It offers a wide variety of landscapes, from sandy beaches to wild moors and exotic gardens. The island is famous for its abbey and botanical garden, home to over 20,000 species of plants from all over the world. It also boasts superb anchorages in crystal-clear waters, ideal for cruising after a Channel crossing from the Breton or Irish coasts.

La chapelle de St Nicolas's est une église anglicane
The chapel of St. Nicolas, built in 1879 from two former cottages that served as places of worship. It is dedicated to Saint Nicolas, the patron saint of sailors, in memory of the many shipwrecks that occurred around the islands. It features stained glass windows depicting biblical and maritime scenes.

Ruines du Old Blockhouse, un fort d'artillerie de style Tudor a probablement été construit à la fin des années 1540 pour protéger Old Grimsby. Le bâtiment en pierre possède un étage surélevé pour les canons qui donne sur le port à l'est.
Ruins of the Old Blockhouse, a Tudor-style artillery fort probably built in the late 1540s to protect Old Grimsby from French attacks that never came. Nevertheless, it was the object of a fierce battle in 1651 during the English Civil War. The stone building has an elevated gun storey overlooking the harbour to the east.

Tresco is home to a botanical garden, created in 1834 by Augustus Smith. The garden is home to over 20,000 subtropical plants from more than 80 countries, including South Africa, Australia, New Zealand and South America.
Le jardin est organisé en terrasses orientées sud, protégées du vent par des murs et des arbres. Il contient aussi les ruines d'une abbaye bénédictine du 12e siècle. Il est considéré comme l'un des plus beaux jardins du monde.
The garden is laid out in south-facing terraces, protected from the wind by walls and trees. It also contains the ruins of a 12th-century Benedictine abbey. It boasts remarkable plants from all over the world.

The garden boasts a unique collection of figureheads known as Valhalla. It includes some 30 figureheads and other ornaments from ships beached on the island in the 19th century, from that of Tsar Alexander I to La Sirène, from the French ship La Sirène, demolished in 1860.
