Duracell project: Between tank and cockpit, more models!

Matt continues to work on transforming the Duracell racing boat into a cruising boat. He's working on the future fuel tank, as well as refining the design of the boat's cockpit. At the same time, he discovers treasures in the boat's old equipment.

The big unpacking

When he began work on Duracell, Matt unloaded pounds of equipment from the former racing yacht. It ranged from fittings to plumbing to electronics to sails. Everything had been hastily stored in the back of the garage. It's time to sort it out. It's an opportunity to find archive posters of Duracell, but also sails that can be reused, a drifter, a mainsail, a storm trinquette... Anything that the rats didn't damage!

A custom fuel tank

Duracell's motorization will be hybrid. The sailboat must therefore have a fuel tank, which Matt will have made of aluminum. But first, he has to make a wooden template to send to the manufacturer. He will make sure of the shape, but also of the future integration in the layout, under the double cabin bunk.

Cockpit versions 3 and 4

Following the iterative process that he likes, Matt continued to design the future cockpit, taking into account the comments of Internet users. The result is two new versions, with lowered bench seats to accommodate cushions, a mainsail winch moved aft so the helmsman has control of both sails within easy reach. Attention is also paid to the circulation on the side decks and a smart ledge guides the runoff of future sea breezes.
