Black soap is less known than Marseille soap, yet it is an excellent ally for cleaning and a great degreaser. 100% natural, composed mainly of olive oil or linseed oil and non-toxic for the environment, it is a totally ecological and inexpensive product. Here are some ideas, not exhaustive, to use it on board your boat.
Express cleaning of the gas stove
When your oven is warm, soak a damp sponge with a capful of liquid black soap and scrub the interior and glass of your unit. Concentrate on the greasy areas, then rinse with water and a capful of vinegar! Do the same for the top of the stove.
You can also clean the grates and the various elements of the fires by soaking them in a mixture of water and baking soda, or by rubbing them with a scouring paste made with 5 spoonfuls of baking soda, a spoonful of black soap and a little water depending on the consistency.
Maintenance of all surfaces and materials
Whether it's wood, plastic, leather or bodywork, black soap cleans everything! When diluted in a sprayer with 5 cl of liquid black soap and 1 liter of water or 2 to 3 caps in a bucket of hot water, it will wash and protect perfectly. It can therefore clean the interior upholstery, the stains in the bottom of the boat or the linings.
Degreasing of kitchen utensils
Thanks to its degreasing power, black soap can be used to replace dishwashing liquid. Simply put a little on your sponge to clean pots and pans, then rinse preferably with hot water.
Pet hygiene
If you have a dog on board, you can use black soap as a pet shampoo. Its anti-flea action, by leaving it on for half an hour before rinsing, is particularly interesting in this context. It also works for lice
The black soap detergent
Black soap replaces your usual detergent. Simply pour one spoonful of liquid black soap per kilo of laundry into the laundry tank of your washing machine and you're done!
For an even more brilliant action, you can make the following recipe: mix 50g of black soap with 30g of bicarbonate of soda and 1 liter of hot water then pour the whole in a recovery can. You will dose in the same way, one tablespoon per kilo of laundry.
