Web series / Duracell Project: Unloading the motor from the sailboat by its own means

It's time for Matt to unload the engine from Duracell, the racing yacht he's turning into a pleasure boat. A hectic operation, carried out with home-made means and which requires a little imagination.

Remove the engine from the hold

In the previous episode, Matt had prepared the engine extraction operation by cutting out the bottom of the cockpit. The block, disconnected from its circuits, already removed, can now be reassembled with a hoist and placed on the bastaings wedged in the cockpit floor.

Engine drop

Matt built a homemade lifting device from 2 trestles and wooden beams. It allows him to suspend the engine and slide it gradually towards the back of the boat. Unfortunately, the balance remains unstable and the engine tips over at the bottom of the rear cockpit, fortunately without damage.

Construction of a rolling gantry

So Matt took it to the next level. He built a wooden gantry on wheels in his workshop, high enough to lift the engine from the deck of the dry boat and put it on land. The operation, although delicate, was a success. The Duracell engine can be returned to the workshop while waiting to decide its fate, a resale or a conversion into a generator for the future cruises of the young American couple.
