During a collision with another element or following a structural weakness, it can happen that a breach is created in the hull of a boat. This is one of the most feared types of damage: water ingress.
While it will obviously be necessary to activate the bilge pumps, bail and try to empty the water that has entered the boat, it will also be necessary - above all - to act with method and precision to reduce or even stop the entry of water. Here is an original solution to seal the breach.
An easy to use tool
The Leak Stop Gun ( literally escape stop gun ) looks like an underwater fishing gun. It is equipped with an inflatable and reusable balloon at its end. A gas cartridge (carbon dioxide) allows the balloon to be inflated quickly, and in all cases it will follow the shape of the breach. Round, square or fractured, the space left empty in the hull will be filled by the inflated balloon.
Does not cause additional damage to the boat's hull
The trigger that equips this rifle allows to dose the inflation ( the final size ) and the pressure within the balloon. Thus, by applying only what is necessary to seal the breach, the risk of damaging the hull is extremely reduced.
Reusable and versatile
Once back in a safe place ( median, bereuros ), the balloon can be deflated and reused if, by misfortune, a new incident should occur. It will be enough to buy a new gas cartridge to make the gun usable again.
And in the event of an impact that causes several breaches, each balloon does not remain attached to the gun. It is thus possible to arrange several balloons to plug each waterway independently.
Used by the German Navy
For several years now, the German Navy has equipped all its ships with this accessory, which is easy to use and allows each sailor to act quickly in the event of an accident. It is also used by the fire department to seal leaks in tanks, thus preventing any pollutants from spreading uncontrolled.
Available in two versions
Two versions of the Leak Stop Gun are available. The 150 version seals holes from 50 to 120 mm in size. The LSG 400, on the other hand, seals holes of 35 centimeters.
The balloons, of different diameters, are double-layered (EPDM rubber for the internal structure, non-drip polypropylene sheet for the exterior) and inflate to their maximum size in 7 seconds or less.
A high price because of a small production run
The LSG 400euro model is offered at 4 394 euros. The LSG 150 at 3,844 euros. This price, which may seem high for a safety accessory, is explained by the fact that each piece of equipment is manufactured individually by the company, which has only three employees. In addition, the manufacturing, engineering and development of the solution are all done in Germany.
