Hugo finishes his first leg of the Mini Transat 2021. A stage that arrives on the island of La Palma in the Canaries. For his performance, Hugo is not too happy. He arrives in 16th position (on 60 Mini series). A position that he blames on tactical choices that did not pay off. The weather regularly put obstacles in his way.
Until the last day when trying to keep the center of the channel between the islands, to keep a stronger air current, the wind dropped, allowing chasers to pass him.
The stopover in the Canaries allowed Hugo to make some repairs on board. Fortunately small, because the navigator did not pull too much on his boat which remains in perfect integrity.
But it was another surprise that welcomed the sailors at the stopover. The sailors found their boats under a carpet of ash. Indeed, the volcano on the island was erupting during this period. As a result, the skippers had to regularly remove the thick ash that covered the boats and seeped everywhere, especially in the fittings.
