A pronounced hull
Dromeas Yachts is a Turkish shipyard. It has a range of 6 models from 28 to 38 feet, available in open or walkaround versions and even SUV (with a wheelhouse). The D28 WA, an 8.25-meter cabin cruiser with a walkaround deck plan, was presented in France during the 2021 fall boat shows.
Its deep-V hull is equipped with steps and a well-defined step to face the waves. Available as a single or twin engine with a maximum power of 500 hp (2x250 hp), the Dromeas D28 WA has a maximum speed of 50 knots. However, the French importer recommends a power of 300 hp, which is more than enough for cruising.
A well protected front square
Its design is marked by a higher bulwark height at the bow than at the stern, offering a well protected bow area defended by a balcony. The raised foredeck allows for more space in the cabin. It is accessed by two steps. There is a sunbathing area with a wrap-around backrest, which covers the cabin roof, as well as two hatches to access the anchor locker.
A spacious cockpit
The central cockpit has a spacious dashboard and a large, reverse windshield that is high enough to allow for well-protected navigation. Windshield wipers are standard. Two pilot and co-pilot seats with armrests and flip-up seats allow you to pilot and enjoy the navigation while sitting or standing. The seated driving position is not the most optimal. A solid rigid hard-top tops the cockpit as well as the kitchen cabinet installed behind the pilot seats. The latter can be equipped with a livewell for fishing enthusiasts or with storage space.
The double cabin has a nice headroom. It is made bright by the plexiglass deck hatch. A separate toilet completes the space below deck.
A versatile and modular cockpit
The cockpit has a clever modular saloon, which nevertheless deserves some improvements, especially in terms of the removable backrests. It is possible to create two double seats to sail facing the sea, a lunch room facing each other to enjoy a meal in the sun or a sunbath by adding a cushion on the removable table. Finally, when anchored, you can enjoy sitting on the rear bench seat by tilting the backrest to face the sea. However, in this position, the space between the bench seat and the engine is quite small. The cockpit can be totally sheltered by installing a sun cover.
Still in this space, we appreciate the storage for the fenders in the bulwarks or the two coupée doors on port and starboard. This design makes it easier to bring fish up or to get back on board during a swim thanks to the handrails, but you'll have to pump up your biceps to get the door up once in the water. On the stern, two bathing platforms also allow access to the sea or to the engine.
Some points to review
The Dromeas D28 WA has a smart layout, but still deserves a little more care. The same goes for the finishes which could be further improved. Its price including VAT is 136euros000 euros.
