Test / Navigation and Program of the Flyer 10, a fast and liveable open

We tried the Flyer 10 on the Catalan coast. A rather calm sea allowed us to judge the qualities of this second generation "Air Step" hull.

Several engines

The Flyer 10 is offered with different engines: 2x300 or 2x350 hp Suzuki. Mercurys of the same power are also available for this model. It should be noted that only the Mercury could have a joystick control like the one in our test. We hope that this is now possible with the Suzuki 350 hp, because the advantage of this control, given the close proximity of the outboard motors, is really decisive for crosswind manoeuvres.

Pleasant driving position

The two seats in front of the steering console are very comfortable and the driving position is good despite the windscreen being slightly too low. A PVC extension is possible with the hard top option. But here again the brand has a response in another range with the Grand Tourismo 32 which has exactly the same hull, but in a coupe version that will allow sailing in less clement weather. Well wedged in the seat, the control handle is well within easy reach.

More than 40 knots on flat sea

Here we are off the coast of Port Ginesta. Once the throttle has been pushed, it doesn't take long for the Flyer 10 to get up off the throttle. The thrust of the two 350 hp Suzuki's is frank and powerful. Our speed/conso readings reveal that the boat is very comfortable at an average of between 25 and 30 knots. With a fuel consumption of around 100 l/h, we can sail more than 250 miles, which is more than enough for a day boat, even when making a return trip to Corsica. Our test of the day will take us to over 41 knots, the stepped hull is efficient and the curves and course changes reveal good stability. At slower speeds, the water ingress from the hull provides good deflection and no spray arrives on deck. Comfort is very good at these small paces.
