Virgin Mojito 650, a panoramic mini-scow, high performance, comfortable and eco-responsible

On a cruise with a round nose! One year after the announcement of the launch of the Mojito 650, where is the IDBmarine shipyard? We visited the workshop to follow the construction of this scow intended for cruising and adopting the panoramic deckhouse of the range.

A presentation planned at the Grand Pavois de la Rochelle 2020

Little brother of the Mojito 8.88 and 10.88, the Mojito 650 is an extrapolation of the Maxi 650 regatta boat A scow (wide bow) and the famous panoramic deckhouse with its vertical portholes, the distinctive sign of a Mojito. The only concession to the Mojito's very special line is the absence of a tunnel or tender garage... Remember that it is only 6.50 m long.

A real cruise ship

Equipped with a lifting keel allowing both to run aground, but also to have a large draught with the keel lowered (about 1.80 m), this small light boat (round bow obliges, because to function these hulls must be light) will be the ideal companion for coastal cruises.

What about inside?

The scow bow allows a consequent interior volume close to that of an 8 m sailing boat... David RAISON, the architect and the IDBmarine team worked on simple and functional fittings.
One double berth at the bow, rather large, and two berths in the saloon that run under the cockpit.

There is also the possibility to install a saloon table on the stainless steel epontille with a kitchen area with a small stove 1 fire, a sink and equipment. A small navigation area with instrument holder, chemical WC are also provided. Without forgetting the motor chair with electric motor!

Construction that combines performance and the environment

The expected performance of the Mojito 650 is directly derived from that of the Maxi 650, as it has the same hull. Only the keel plan and the rigging are different. So we'll have to wait for the first tests to draw conclusions, but the design is dreamlike.

Il a vraiment un nez rond
He really has a round nose

The Mojito 650 is built according to the standards of the building site, i.e. high quality and perfect control of the infusion.

In addition to this, an environmental and more eco-friendly approach has been added with a linen - PET - cork - polyester sandwich hull with counter-moulded, glued and laminated bottom liners. The deck is also made of a linen - PET - cork - polyester sandwich and the anti-slip is moulded. This eco-design gives the new name of Virgin Mojito 650.

An eco-responsible approach - Why flax fibre? PET? cork?

  • The adoption of flax instead of fibreglass is an approach that significantly reduces the boat's carbon footprint: the fibreglass classically used comes from petrochemicals and is mainly from Asia. Conversely, flax fibre is grown and woven in France: it is therefore a renewable resource.
  • Cork is also a renewable resource produced in Europe that replaces SORIC, which is a non-woven material with a hexagonal cell structure, but based on polyester.
  • PET foam is a thermoplastic and recyclable, closed-cell foam with very good mechanical properties and extraordinary fatigue resistance. Its technical characteristics are similar to Corecell polystyrene-based foam.

Thus the materials used, apart from polyester resin, are either renewable (flax, cork) or recyclable (PET).

Like all Mojito yachts, the Virgin Mojito 650 must be a comfortable and fast boat. IDBmarine will not fail to live up to its reputation and will allow many people to enjoy short cruises on a unit that is transportable. Enough to open up new horizons.
