Jean-Baptiste Daramy recounts a crosswind start at full speed

For the start of the Route du Rhum, Jean-Baptiste Daramy is alone on his Class40. He tells us about the joy of crossing the line in the middle of the 120 competitors taking part in this legendary event.

I have a memory that comes immediately to mind of a good time at sea. It was at the start of the Route du Rhum. It was a magical start with a beam wind. I was aboard my boat, I'd just unfurled the gennaker and the boat was sliding along at great speed with all the competitors. There were still 120 of us at the start. Even if we have to be realistic, I have no memory of the Ultimate at the start, we didn't see them. We were coming abeam off Saint-Malo. It was hyper intense emotions, because it was the fruit of work and preparation to be at the start. And it remains a pure joy of sailing, at full speed under gennaker on my pretty Class40 and at the same time a lot of emotions linked to the start of a big single-handed transatlantic race. It's really a moment that I've loved at sea and I hope to be able to experience some more very soon.
