Evelyn is an earthling. A Norman woman, but an earthy Norman woman. And yet, she feels a very strong attraction for the sea. Today settled in Antibes, this school teacher, former nurse, photography fanatic shares with us one of her series of images.
? I like to photograph the sea in long pause. In Antibes, I work a lot at sunrise, directly from the quay. With my camera on its tripod, my shots last between 2 seconds and 2 minutes. This makes it possible to make appear on the photo what the eye cannot perceive. One thus crosses a frontier of reality invisible to the naked eye. These images reveal, like a mirror that is created, something different from reality. I love the fog effect that also smoothes the image, making it artistic. In life I'm a rather tonic woman, and these photos soothe me. Their poetic character transports me.
I'm also trying to purify the image as much as possible. My only retouching consists in cropping, because I find that the Italian format, close to 16:9 and preferable to the 3:2 format that my reflex offers me. This is the only retouching I allow myself. Otherwise I use filters on my lenses for my images. I find that they give more softness and naturalness to the image than a digital retouch. But probably it is also my lack of mastery of the computer tool that pushes me to work this way. ?
Evelyn admits it outright, " i'm self-taught. I love photography and I devote all my free time to it. I learn a lot by reading magazines and the web, but also by exchanging with others. Curious, I also look a lot at what other photographers propose. ?
In this period of confinement, there's no question of making pictures, " especially since the roadstead is currently empty. No boats at anchor or offshore. Recently, I discovered that I could visualize them via their AIS on Vessel Finder. It helps me a lot to caption my photos. ?
