On Monday, March 23rd, go in front of your computer screen to take part in the Great Escape. This race has been developed by the Virtual Regatta team to bring a little "air" to the enthusiasts in need of a bit of sea spray. At 1:02 pm next Monday, you will set sail for 4?000 miles between La Rochelle and Curacao, in the Caribbean.
"We couldn't just stand by and do nothing. Professional sailors, Sunday sailors, but also the organisers, sponsors or simply my entourage encouraged me to create a race to put some sunshine in our hearts. The enthusiasm was immediate. So we put it all together in a few days. And in spite of teleworking and even sick people in our team, we rang the bell and launched this race. Part of the profits will be donated to an association whose name will be revealed in a few days." explains Philippe Guigné, creator of Virtual Regatta.
Open to professionals
This great race will allow 1?300?000 members to sail alongside professional sailors, who are also forced to stay ashore. Indeed, the organisation invites the skippers to come and fight alongside the amateurs. They will be "certified" to be easily identified and will have a specific additional ranking.
Four categories of boats
For this race, you will sail on four different types of boats: Ultimate, IMOCA, Class40 and Figaro 3 and you will have to reach the Caribbean before 31st March to be the fastest.
Exceptionally, all players will have VIP status with extended weather, 120-hour trajectory forecasts, the ability to display 100 friendly boats instead of 50, customization of the map background or the provision of boat polar, etc...
