Discovery / The sailboat Marie-Georgette, a courier from the island of Batz

The Marie-Georgette was created in 1947 on the island of Batz for freight transport. Today, his 4th life is dedicated to the discovery of the Côtes-d'Armor and traditional navigation.

Freight transport

Marie-Georgette is a 9 m long wooden gaff cutter built in 1947 in Roscoff in Finistère. It's named after the wife and daughter of the original owner. Commonly called "courrier", it was used for transport between the island of Batz - its home base - and the land in the heart of the Bay of Morlaix. It carried both islanders wishing to go ashore and freight: potatoes, sand, seaweed..

Fishing Vessel

After 20 years of good and loyal service, the Marie-Georgette is untied and her powerful sails are replaced by an engine. It was then the 1970s and the old rigging was transformed into a fishing vessel and officiated on behalf of a new owner. Officer in Brest harbour, it is used to lift the traps and to harvest scallops.

Pleasure boat

In the 80's, she ended her abandoned career in Brest harbour. It is then spotted by a new owner who acquires it for a symbolic franc. After a long refit, the Marie-Georgette recovers her gaff rigging and starts a new life as a yacht. On board, his new owner undertook a long journey along the Atlantic coast: Brittany, Spain and Portugal.

Sailboat of stroll

It was finally in 1989 that Pascal Jeusset, its current owner, bought it. Pascal first tried his hand at sea outings aboard a foresail boat and discovered an activity he likes: contact with the sea and nature, sharing it with the public... That's how he decided to launch his activity of walking and nautical excursion in Brittany.

The Marie-Georgette has returned to her original condition - hollow hull, 4-sided auric mainsail, two headsails - jib and staysail, a bowsprit, and a jib that can be rigged above the mainsail. In 2010/2012, she is undergoing a major refit at état?; 80% of her hull has been changed.

His new port of attache?? Plougrescant, in the Côtes-d'Armor.

On board, he organizes sea trips and takes 10 people on board for the day. Discovery of traditional navigation, trolling and trap fishing, sail handling, map reading... are the activities he offers. But what he likes most of all is to be able to spend a good day at sea, to discover the rocky landscapes he loves so much on board this very seaworthy boat.

"I've been on her for 30 seasons and we've always done well. Even if it's complicated, we get along", concludes Pascal.
