Selden E40i: An electric winch with an integrated motor to take up less space

Using a 42 V motor installed in the headstock, the Selden E40i winch can be installed as easily as a manual winch, but offers all the advantages of an electric winch.

Installing an electric winch on a sailboat often poses space problems. Indeed, the engine is under the winch, so under the bridge. It is therefore necessary to reserve some space for it. This is often problematic for piano winches, those under the hood on top of the deckhouse. Indeed, below the deck is the aft cabin, which requires a height under the beams.

The motor integrated in the headstock

Selden has solved this problem with its new E40i winch by integrating the motor directly into the winch headstock. Certainly this doll is larger than a traditional doll, but under the winch only electrical wires come out. No large motors or large housings.

Three speeds

The E40i winch (available in a single size of 40) is equipped with three speeds: fast, medium and slow (rotation speed ranging from 6.5 to 17 m/min). It is available in chrome-plated stainless steel (9.1 kg) or black anodised aluminium (6.8 kg).

42 V for light wiring.

This winch operates at 42 V thanks to a converter that converts from 12 or 24 V. By using this high voltage, Selden greatly reduces the diameter of the cables. Thus only three thin cables (6 mm2) run under the bridge, which makes installation easy.

A very attractive price

As usual, Selden offers its equipment at a very competitive price (in addition to being innovative). The recommended price of the E40i winch with its power supply unit (therefore ready to install) is around 2900euros HT for the stainless steel version and 2790euros HT for the black aluminium version. A price with about 500 euros less than a competitive model...
