Domani E32 Chaseboat, an electric motor boat designed like a sailboat

Domani E32

After the launch of the Domani S30, in 2018 an elegant 9m daysailer, the Belgian manufacturer launches the electric motor boat. A propulsion system that the Belgian shipyard is particularly fond of, as they already use it for their sailboat. Discovery of the Domani E32, a boat entirely designed for electric use.

After the sail, the engine, but electric

We had discovered the Belgian shipyard Domani during our visit to Düsseldorf in 2018. The builder was launching a splendid daysailer with a modern design and clean lines, the Domani S30.

From now on, it is another model that the manufacturer is preparing to launch. And with a motor please! The Domani E32 Chaseboat is a 32-foot electric dayboat designed as a semi-custom model. This means that the E32 is available in two hull versions, three deck versions and with two power electric engines.

It was at the request of a Euro customer who wanted an efficient electric boat from naval architect James Cutler, father of the Domani S30, that the manufacturer decided to embark on the motorboat adventure. "James Cutler had the ambition to commercialize this model and approached us for the conception of the boat and its design. We worked on the hydrodynamic shape, the electric motorization, the choice of batteries. It's a really exciting project" explains Michael Goddaert, founder of Domani.

A construction specially designed for electric propulsion

The Domani E32 Chaseboat has a hull specially developed for electric propulsion and not converted from an existing combustion engine boat hull.

For the construction of his motorboat, Domani used the same construction methods as for his sailboat, namely an infused sandwich. Infusion allows for good weight control, meets environmental standards and ensures good standardization.

"The autonomy of a boat with electric motor depends on the shape of the hull and the weight of the boat. That's why we designed it like a sailboat: a more rigid structure, weight control in all parts, less possible bulkheads. It's also a more ecological construction method that is important to us michael explains.

"We had never done a motor boat and it was the electric propulsion that convinced me. We already use it in our sailboats and it's really interesting. It's both different from the design of a sailboat and a thermal engine boat." adds the founder.

Two choices of propulsion

For the propulsion, the manufacturer offers two options:

euros a standard Oceanvolt motor of 10, 20 or 30 kW of 48 volts

euros a Yasa high performance motor of 50, 100 or 150 kW

Depending on the configuration, the Domani E32 will have a speed of 7 to 20 knots.

"With these different configurations, we meet the different demands of our customers in electric. It all depends on where they sail - lakes or coastal - and whether they use low speed or chase boats explains Michael.

Two choices of hull

in the manner of a semi-custom boat and depending on the program and propulsion, the manufacturer offers two choices of hull. A standard version euros "Super efficient" which will be suitable for cruising between 7 and 20 knots and a sea version euros Custom Line for speed, suitable for Yasa engines up to 3x50 kW.

Three bridge plans

The version launched at the end of the year will be presented in an Open deck layout. A Euro Cruiser for the Nordic countries and a walk-around will complete the different deck layouts.

This model will be presented at Boot Düsseldorf 2020 with a base price of 209,000 HT with a 10 kW Oceanvolt engine.
