It is nice to browse through the beautiful books. Their large size and beautiful illustrative photos offer the promise of a great time to relax. I tackled "La Route du Rhum, 40 years of legend" by Didier Ravon in this way. By telling myself that I was going through the old images that came out of the boxes, relive the 10 editions that made the glory hours of this mythical race.
Accurate and complete texts
But more than a collection of images, this book is a real mine of information with an extremely rich text. Didier Ravon, a nautical journalist "since time immemorial", sailor and photographer, has always frequented the world of ocean racing. Whether he is competing in the America's Cup or at the helm of Voiles et Voiliers magazine, he has frequented all the skippers.
Anecdotes and short sentences...
Admittedly, as a journalist he did not cover the first edition of the 1978 Route du Rhum, he was able to attend and follow all the adventures and adventures that shaped this race in the following editions. As a result, his book is full of details, anecdotes, little sentences from skippers or weather decoding. It's a real pleasure to immerse yourself in the rich hours of these solitary skippers who make us dream. With memories of the machines on one, two or three hulls with which they ride the Atlantic Ocean.
If only one of them had to be retained...
40 years of the Route du Rhum is something to celebrate and the publishers have understood it well. That is why we see some books released on this occasion. But if there was one to remember, it is the one we have in our hands today, the one written by Didier Ravon..
