Channel record broken for Yvan Bourgnon

Mathis and Yvan Bourgnon

Navigator Yvan Bourgnon accompanied by his son Mathis wanted to try to beat two records in one month. After that of the Mediterranean, it thus launched an assault on the Channel, setting a new reference time on Sunday 5 August 2018 in 19 h 47 min 31 s (provisional journey time).

Two records in one month, here is the challenge that Yvan Bourgnon had set himself. With his son Mathis, the navigator has just established a new reference time on the Crossing the Mediterranean and again on the Channel crossing.

Left Saturday, August 4 at 4 h 50 min 30 s from England on their Nacra F20, the two men reached Dinard on Sunday 5 August at around 0 h 40 min. With a provisional journey time of 19 h 47 min 31 s (awaiting validation by the WSSRC), they improved by about 12 h the previous record held by David Leon in 31 h 38 min 40 s.

Although they have beaten this challenge hands down a press release announces" Yvan & Mathis faced a capricious weather window, with light winds at the start, then again around Guernsey and Jersey, where they also had to slalom between headwinds."

Yvan Bourgnon wanted above all to establish a new time (he hoped to cross in 15 hours) to give a new challenge to the next sailors to try this challenge
